Whitey Lockman was signed by the New York Giants in
1943 as an amateur free agent.
At the age of 19, he hit a home run in his first major league at bat on July 5,
1945.
Whitey played first base & outfield 13 years for the Giants, 1 year for the Cardinals,
1 year for the Orioles,
and 2 years for the Red Legs.
Whitey was chosen as the NL All Star first baseman in 1952.

Because he was under contract with Bowman,
he would not appear on another Topps
issued card until 1956.
