1952 Bowman Baseball Cards
Topps Chewing Gum Company's biggest conpetition in 1952 was the already
established
Bowman
Gum Co. of Philadelphia, PA. Bowman had started issuing baseball card
sets, starting with their 48 card 1948
Bowman baseball card set.
Since Bowman was already using the practice of selling bubble gum using baseball cards
in the same pack as the gum, they sued Topps for the rights. The suit was
unsuccessful.
