Edward Charles "Whitey" Ford
"You kind of took
it for granted around the Yankees that there was always
going to be baseball in October."

Joining the Yankees in the middle of the
1950 season, "Whitey" won nine straight games. A home run by Philadelphia's
Sam Chapman gave him his only loss in his 9 win 1 loss rookie season stats. In the
1950 World Series against Philidelpia,
he pitched 8-2/3 innings without allowing an earned run, struck out 7 and walked only 1
batter to win the fourth game of the
Yankee series sweep. He spent 1951 and 1952 in the military service and was not included
in the 1952 Topps Baseball Card Set.
